Who needs to get such a document signed prior to interview ? Is it an audit requirement of client or agency (if sub-contracting) ? What is the point ? I figure if someone has agreed to meet for an interview, isn't that an indicator that they are agreeable to be interviewed? Why get a signature to confirm the obvious ? I had this experience when briefly subbing to a big firm last year.

I would expect it's just a client/agency requirement (Generally to prove to senior management that the person being interviewed gave consent). As standard practice we ask at the end of each interview if they were here of their own free will, if they had been placed under any duress to participate in the interview and if they were going to receive any benefit from participation (i.e money or property for the interview). I guess having a signed document is a paper version of what we already do as part of our standard interview procedures.

I can't see how it would be of any benefit in legal proceedings.

It's is normally an Agency or insurance client that requires the signed interview consent form.  If your client requests you obtain a signed consent form and you go ahead without having one signed...guess what...you've wasted your time because you probably will not be paid for the job or obtain any other jobs from that client!

My understanding of the requirement is to protect the client's interest in case the matter proceeds to Court.  I don't know how many times I've heard of people complain that they have not known they were being interviewed because the investigator has advised them "can we have a chat"!  A chat is not an interview!!!

If the interviewee signs the form then there would be no repercussions...if they don't sign then there are definite repercussions!
