Hi All,

I'm sitting in my car waiting for my first interview for today and I've 30mins to kill.

As some of you know, I'm a Factual supporter (I type this while Jockey is out of the country and will have a delay in debating with me) and I hope some of the current students will focus towards factual after finishing.

To all students and working investigators-
How do you assess your skills in relation to Audio Recorded Interviews?
What are your expectations / what is your average length of interviews?

I'm curious to hear from others so please feel free to post.

Ta,
Lj

Ps- please avoid posting the 'every investigation is different' response without giving an example for the current students

Hi Leah

Half an hour to spare!! Wow! I was always running late  ::)

Every investigation is dif.... er... I mean, I don't know what kind of interview you were doing, but in my experience doing liability and claims factuals for donkey's years, I usually took 2 to 2.5 hours to interview a claimant/plaintiff/insured. The other interviews relating to a specific case are typically witnesses, manager/supervisor and employer/CEO and they varied between short half-hour interviews up to several hours where the employer had to cover a myriad areas including detailed responses to a statement of claim.

Mind you, I must add that I always took statements. My clients expected statements and decs instead of audio, so my examples might not mean much to you if you are going to do audio.

Therefore I am only able to guess how you might assess your skills from the audio when you listen to it later. I know that on occasions when I was on video or a tape for whatever personal/family reasons, I'd often cringe at how I said something, or how stupid I was in making a certain comment. So I guess if you listen to your audio of the interview and you cringe every now and then, it will be a good guide for you.

Feel free to share (broadly) what kind of matter you were dealing with.

Hi Jockey

"training" in Malaysia?? Wow... you were training people or you were being trained? Sounds exotic. Suppose for you, the regular SE Asia traveller, this is no big deal!

Nice to see you back Jockey.

I'm sorry I missed you in Melbourne earlier. I'm planning on heading down again early 2012 too and it'll be work related so I will fit you in this time.

You are correct re: surveillance and I'm sure you will hear from me soon. I've been flat out lately and returned from holiday early because jobs were coming in while I was away.

I was up at 3:00am this morning and another early one tomorrow though I'll call you in between jobs.
