From the word go I have always talked my notes into a Notetaker. It's only as big as a cigarette lighter and when it's time to type up my notes, I push the Play button and commence typing. I am told there are more modern types and methods of dictaphoning (or Notetaking) that plug directly into the computer, however, I stick to this method as it works well for me.
Also I am a very fast accurate typist, who has done dictaphone work all her life (doctors, committees, councils, etc.) so this makes it easier, however, I suggest for someone who is not a fast accurate typist, to look into the new types available.
Another option is Dragon Naturally Speaking. Dictaphone the information while on duty, then plug it in your computer and Dragon interprets. Speak clearly, concisely and with no accent, or else Dragon doesn't understand what you are saying.
Cheerio,
