Well, I managed to survive the Feb 22 quake. I was in the office (that was red-stickered after the Boxing Day quake) when it happened and was mildly surprised that the building withstood the damage again. Especially since so many deemed 'safe' didn't.

Here's the front of the building:

While I made it out with the clothes on my back (and my BlackBerry in my pocket), I have no idea when, or if, I will be able to return to try and salvage anything from the building. A bit of a double whammy since I live there as well.

Luckily I had a wedding to go to out of town several days later, so managed to have a hot shower and buy some clothes. I finally have some possessions again!

Well, I'm back now and looking to the future. I have no idea what will happen next and whether I can survive this third kick in the balls (businesswise). On the other hand, perhaps this may bring further opportunities.

It's all a bit too early to tell at this stage.

Finally, a big thanks to those who have contacted me to wish me well etc. Your support is appreciated, even if you are Aussies.

Cheers!

I, for one, didn't know about your location and situation and I am glad to hear you are out OK. I can well appreciate the extraordinary difficulties you must be facing now. It's mind boggling how difficult life must be for you and so many others around you.

It is heartbreaking to see  what has happened and how many people have died. Of course the emphasis on the deaths ignores the reality that many people that got out with injuries, will have their lives forever changed to varying degree of severity.

I wish you well and that you can battle through all this successfully. For what it's worth, I am told by some sources that there is mountains of loss adjusting work in NZ, mountains that are still consequent to the December quake and no doubt, now there will be much more.

I know from good experience that loss adjusting is in essence no different than claims investigation, but it pays much better. Your personal experience would place you in a superior position to get work either from agencies or from insurers, given that great value is attached to the investigator's special capacity to be sensitive and deal properly with the claims with an eye on important PR for the insurers.

My best wishes Cabal :)
