Not much activity in this area of the forum, so just thought I would post to see if there are any English/UK trained Investigators about the forum currently working in Australia?

Hello AndyFods

Saw your other posts and agree entirely with you this section is looking rather lonely.

Welcome to the Oz and remember that we Aussies like to stir up the "poms", but we don't mean bad! We like to dish it out. Not so sure we can all take it though  :?

Andy, I for one would be interested to know what is the licensing situation in the UK for PIs? What kind of training is required? How difficult is it to get a licence? Indeed, is a licence needed?

cheers  8)

Tell me about it, I lived with a family of Aussies when I first came to Australia so know first hand about the "banter" ... they didnt like it when I was celebrating the Ashes though...

Hmmm not sure I can answer that for you BigGeorge, as I was based in the Public Sector working for Local Government. The PinS training I aquired was a nesessity in that area and could be used when transferring between Government departments, ie: local councils, Department for Work and Pensions and the National Health Service. I honestly dont know if it would count for much in the land of the PI...   This is why I am struggling to get my head around the way it works here in Australia

Just doing some research now you have mentioned the matter, it does seem that there are no qualifications/training required to become a PI in UK, although Clients do prefer that you have a UKPIN Diploma in Private Investigation

Here is a link to the PinS agenda we had to undertake. Looks very similar to Cert III...

http://www.rmh-training.co.uk/courses/a ... pecialist/

I was considering some RPL for the Cert III, but after a couple of years off, I thought it be best to "start from scratch" as it were.

Good on you AndyFods, thanks for the info. I'll check out the links. I think there are several countries around Europe where a licence is not needed to do PI work, but then you can go to the complete opposite like South Korea where you need a uni degree and more.

I also believe that in Israel one needs a uni degree plus security check and this and that to be able to get a licence.

And by the way, I think doing the full Cert III is the better option as you get better insight and info about local practices. Well, I suppose that might depend on where you are doing the course. I am of course talking about ASSI which has superior training :>>>

cheers

Hi Andy Fods,

Took me a while to get to it, but had a look at the PinS training. Although I didn't read through all of it, I saw enough to see that this is very comprehensive. Very professionally structured. Although I don't know the exact full details of our Cert III it is my impression that the British training is more comprehensive. It also seems that PinS offers a series of courses and if all of them are taken, then yes, for sure, together they are more comprehensive than the Cert III.

There are of course a lot of similarities in British law and Australian law and I think one could almost do the PinS course to improve one's knowledge. Techniques of course don't have boundaries and just looking briefly at what's covered in surveillance, I thought wow.

It looks also like the UK course is a stepping stone to a uni degree. Very interesting. I would encourage others on this forum to follow your link and check it out.

Do you have any idea of the cost of the UK course?

:)

wow looks good, Ive always wondered what it would take to be a PI in the UK and I have the right to work there without restriction so this is very interesting.

I have recently inquired about positions as a store detective as a basic entry in to employment in the UK and it seems a PinS qualification is also required.

Thanks for the links.

Where abouts are you working from at the moment?  I've just moved over from the UK and now live and work in Sydney.

Would be good to get some links in the area

Hi all, sorry for mising these posts the last few weeks, for some reason I was unsubscribed from the thread and didnt receive the notifications.

I am not currently engaged in any Investigation work at present, simply working in Marketing (requirements of my original visa) and now I am a permanent resident have recently signed up for the Cert III course.

I did state in another thread, cannot recall which one now that I had sent my CV off to a few companies with my experience in England alone and the replies have been very promising, although obviosuly requiring me to be licenced, but through this alone I have picked up many contacts and promising opportunities for when I am qualified.

For the record, in England I wasnt classed as PI as I worked for Local Government Investigating benefit fraud, so similar to what Centrelink does I do beleive.. would love to get back into that one day.

How about you, Nat. Where are you working at the moment? and how about you, NBInvestigations are you just starting the Cert III, where are you based

Cheers

Andy

Hi Andy,

I am just outside Hobart, Tasmania. Originally from Colchester, Essex, UK. Signed up to the fast track course in August, and the surveillance course in July. Very excited about this, and want so much to do it now. I have obtained eBooks from 'Investigateway' (hope it ok to say this BG) which I reading and finding very interesting.
Where are you from Andy?..Nat also?
