Surveillance / Re: Safety
« Last post by PI777 on February 22, 2012, 10:45:01 PM »
All of those points are true guys. Pick your surveillance positions well, be aware of anyone who realises you are there, try to wear clothing that suits your environment. There are a lot of little tricks that you can do to either remain covert or divert peoples attention if they have noticed you there.

If you can be on top of all the points outlined in these posts then you reduce the risk of any confrontation and subsequently avoid possible harm to yourself.

All the best

Factual & Fraud / Re: Investigator behaving unlawfully
« Last post by wylie_ma@hotmail.com on February 22, 2012, 08:33:54 PM »

Hi Vlasta,

Recently I answered this question. I (rightly or wrongly) contested the presumption that the investigator had in fact unlawfully obtained information. Unless the investigator made a threat or promise/inducement to the Police officer to obtain this information, then the investigator would not have acted illegally, as it was the Police officer who committed the breach.

This aspect aside, I think that the question asks to consider how you would react to a situation in which you could reasonably suspect an operative has committed and offence. I brought up the Australian Private Investigator Network Code of Ethics, which posits that all conduct by investigators must be done within state and Commonwealth laws, and where impropriety – or indeed even corruption –could be suspected, then it must be reported.

Hope this helps

Hi Jimmy,

I cannot comment on surveillance however, during the GFC we [large insurer] instructed just as many claims, if not more, for factual investigation. Instances of fraud are likely to increase for insurers, where unemployment rises, people become more and more desperate, and vehicles are seen to be surplus to their requirements.

Hope this helps

Factual & Fraud / Investigator behaving unlawfully

Hi guys

Could you please let me know your thoughts on one of the questions from Certificate III below? I am just wondering what different people would do.

You become aware that an investigator you are working with on an inquiry is unlawfully obtaining vehicle registration numbers from a Police Officer.  What would you do?

Thank you

Hi All,

So this weekend has approached mighty quickly and just gauging the interest of anybody that would like to meet up for a coffee? I won't be on the course this time around and am not sure of the times of "class" but is sometime Sunday morning or afternoon avalable perhaps after the class? If someone could let me know where the course is then perhaps a coffee shop around the area would be the easiest fit?

Thanks and look forward to meeting some new and old investigators,

Catherine
