Actually, does anyone know the ratio of men to women investigators in Australia? Or even in their workplace, maybe?

I am both surprised and very pleased at the amount of women members in this forum. It really gives a newbie like me a lot of confidence knowing that girls are thriving in this industry.

8)  Hi,

I know I am going to be stepping on some toes here with this comment, but... having employed and worked with many people over many years, my definitive view is that women make better investigators.

That's not to say I didn't have some top blokes too, but on the whole I'd say three quarter of the men that worked for me were so-so, but three quarter of the women that worked for me were very good. This is in both surveillance and factuals.

Well I'm a female investigator in NSW and I'm still waiting to meet another female, met plenty of guys and don't get me wrong that's cool BUT am beginning to wonder if i'm the only female in her twenties doing surveillance in Sydney. Through G4S I have heard of some older women working but am still yet to meet them.

I am a female in my twenties studying the Cert 3 in Perth.

I'm interested in how female investigators found getting work in the industry, particularly after completing the Cert 3. Ideally I would like to get any investigation work to gain experience in the industry while I continue to study.

Any feedback would be appreciated...

Thanks, Danni :)

I work as a Claims Enquiry Coordinator for a large insurer. My role is to instruct "concerning" claims to external operatives for investigation. Out of the thirty odd operatives which presently conduct work on behalf of business, only two are female. Slight imbalance indeed. However both female operatives are a standout and do perform better then their male counterparts.

Although I would not put this down solely to gender, male operatives tend to be less personal and more interrogative. Most male operatives are ex Police officers and detectives. They do not understand that they no longer possess the power to coerce and "demand" answers from witnesses/claimants.

On the other hand, the two female operatives that I have worked with, converse more openly with claimants and generally able to solicit more information.

Thus Danni do not be deterred by the small portion of women in investigations – chances are you'll show up the males big time !!!

Hi All, I am a female investigator located in FNQ. I am yet to meet another female investigator that conducts surveillance but have met 2 that only do factual investigations. I on the other hand prefer surveillance and find that a lot of clients are happy to hire a female investigator.
