Post first assignment is done
wow i've finally completed my first assignment and sent it off. It's been exciting learning all this new information. I can't believe how nervous i was before making the call to the investigator for exercise 1. It's amazing in an industry like this how unprofessional people can be.

Goodluck to anyone else completing Cert III.

Have a good weekend.

Hi Tish,

The last comment of your post there got me thinking, that and the always present goal of self improvment. What happened to create the impression of unprofessionalism during the call? (that is of course that you don't mind sharing, just don't name specific individuals/firms)

Regards,

Linse.

Post Re: first assignment is done
Hi Linse,

Well to start with when i called the number a guy just answered with a very quite Hello and that was it. I had to ask him if this was the number of an investigations company. He replied with a simple yes. I asked the cost to get my partner followed(for my exercise :) ) and he told me the price. It was so hard talking to him and i was trying to get more information out of him as to what the process is and he just said he'd follow him. Very VERY vague.

As im just starting im not sure if this is the way things happend or not but if i was looking for an investigator there is no way i would choose him. If i thought my partner was having an affair i'd like just a little with of empathy. The whole conversation lasted not even 2 minutes and with the nerves i had before i made the call it was very disapointing.

after reading what i just wrote again maybe he was working on a job or something? though he could have either left the phone to msg bank(like the 2 previous i tried) or asked me to call back later.

What do u think?

Cheers for the interest.

Hi Tish,

Thank you for the response :)

I suspect you might be right, the investigator could have been on a job, but as you said why not voicemail (or even why not an answering service) admittedly voicemail isn't necessarily the most professionaly appearing option but it is functional.
It is possible that they have more then enough work and is intnentionaly tyring to come across as they did (this is a little unlikely as you can always subby the work out)
Perhaps they just have poor phone skills.

I suspect it is because of my background in IT support (and a strict mother :P ) that when the phone is answered I expect it to be answered with a Hello, and then Identify yourself and/or your firm, it is after all the first point of contact with a potential client, and you do want to make a good impression.

Interesting that you mentioned wanting a little empathy, I will have to keep that in mind myself for when I (eventually) get calls of this nature.

As the client I should not have to confirm your business or profession, especially for a task that you would want the uptmost discression for (what if the poeple you worked with heard you asking such questions, the rumour mill would go nuts).

And if that exercise left you with nerves, you will have fun with some of the later ones :) You will be fine, as you gain more knowledge it does become easier :)

Regards,

Linse.
