Hi all im just new to this course and found the surveillance devices act a little confusing could anyone tell me some other web sites to visit or other avenues to clarify the use of devices in victoria.thanks.

.....Im not based in Victoria, however a quick search of Austlii revealed the Surveillance Device Act 1999. Section 3 reveals your definitions.
Section 7 you would find useful if you are referring to an optical surveillance device...take note of the words "private activity" and where people would normally expect privacy....

S7(1)(2)ii seems interesting...any thoughts on this one anyone? Does this overide the overriding privacy provisions of the act under this circumstance if you are protecting ones lawful interest?...

In way in a nut shell mate I would start with the legislation as it starts and ends here...hope this helps..

Comes back to the courts interpretation of what is "reasonably necessary" in the circumstances I suppose.

Also the definition of "Lawful Interests". The monetary value of the interests perhaps?? is anyone aware of any precedents on this?

Thats why I always use Silk to sort this stuff out...
